Automating Irrigation

Press the easy button and let Valley 365 do the work for you

Valley 365 offers a handful of irrigation automation solutions depending on the function you need. On the web or in the mobile app, these handy tools help you start, stop and run when and how you choose.

Auto Reverse/Auto Stop

Enable this function from device configuration so that when your machine reaches a boundary in the field, it will either automatically reverse (and go the opposite direction) or automatically stop based on your preference. When this setting is not configured, the running machine will travel in the same direction continuously until manually or physically stopped.

Auto Reverse/Auto Stop functionality for ICON Link devices has an added benefit. In this case, AR/AS works with Forward and Reverse Boundary angles so that depending on the direction of travel, you can specify what happens once the angle is reached. These boundaries can be either digital or physical barriers and should be configured in the device settings accordingly.

Example: The device shown is set to Auto Reverse. When it starts running forward from where it currently is at, and then reaches the digital boundary of 355 degrees, it will automatically change direction to reverse until it reaches 5 degrees, then reverse again. This will continue back and forth until it is stopped manually.

When set and enabled, the pivot graphic will indicate the angles for auto reverse with yellow lines or for auto-stop with red lines, allowing you to monitor the device progress.

Want to be notified by a text message or email when AR/AS events during the cycle occur? Consider setting alerts for Stop or Direction Change in Alerts Configuration on Valley 365.

Scheduled Commands

Just like automating the settings for your thermostat at home based on time, Scheduled Commands in Valley 365 allows you to do the same with your irrigation devices.

Access scheduled commands from the quick commands section on the detail device view. Create as many scheduled commands for a single devices as you need and manage the schedule at any time.

Start the setup of a new scheduled command by first selecting the frequency.

  • If one-time, select the date and time you would like this command to occur.
  • If recurring, select the day of the week, and timing you want this command to continuously happen.

Then select the commands you would like to occur including Start or Stop, Water On or Off, and Direction. Select 'Send' once setup to store the commands in the schedule.

You can also schedule the same command across multiple devices in a group.

  1. From the grid or list view, locate the group of devices you would like to set up.
  2. Select the ellipses to the right of the group and select Group Commands.
  3. Configure the one-time or recurring scheduled commands, then 'Send'.

Manage your previously scheduled commands for a device at any time by accessing the Scheduled tab in the same settings screen.

Device Links

Users can link one or more irrigation devices to an ancillary device so that when an action occurs on one, it will automate an action on the other. This established relationship will automate commands.

In the case of Crop Links used for various functions, you can link multiple irrigation devices and when one or more of the irrigation devices turns on, the Crop Link relays will as well.

In the case of Pump Command used for flow control, you can link multiple irrigation devices and configure the appropriate set points for each link. When one or more of the irrigation devices turns on (needing water), the Pump Command will turn on and adjust to the set point needed based on the irrigation devices’ demand.

To configure links between devices:

  1. Select the ancillary device and navigate to Device Configuration.
  2. Select 'Device Links'.
  3. Select + to add a new link. Select the trash icon to remove any existing links.
  4. Select a new irrigation device from the provided list of devices on your account.
  5. Select 'Done'.

In either case, when the irrigation device starts or stops, then the link ancillary device will take corresponding action.

Programs

Use step programs to define a sequence of events for the device to execute when running. With conditions and commands, the program will be followed like a recipe. For more details about programs, visit the step-by-step guide here.
